    Global Reading Challenge at Hawthorne!

Students from grades 4 and 5 participated in the Global Reading Challenge, sponsored by the Seattle Public Library.  Teams of 6-7 students have been preparing since November by reading a selection of 10 books supplied by SPL.  They met at recess with Mrs. Campbell, the librarian, to discuss the books, practice book trivia, and prep for the challenge.  On Tuesday, January 30th, librarians from the Columbia City Public Library came to Hawthorne for our in-school challenge.  They commented on how all the teams were well-prepared, polite, and demonstrated good sportsmanship and team comradery. After three rounds of exciting literary trivia, the “Weird Readers” team emerged victorious!  Congratulations to Cailin O’Merril, Nolan Chapman, Gabriela Flores, Samiya McCaskill, Milo Lauderdale, Tamara Whiten, and Jayden Adams.  They will get to go on a field trip to the Central Library on February 27th to compete in the Semi-Finals against other schools in our area.  Great job to everyone who participated!
