ROTARY COMMUNITY DAY OF SERVICE
Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 10:00am-2:00pm at Hawthorne

Another opportunity for parents, families, staff, neighbors and local businesses to come together around a great neighborhood school! Tasks: plant in the P-Patch, stencil world map on playground, paint CDSA building, repaint railings in front of school and repair basketball hoops.
If it's raining, there are many indoor tasks to be completed too!
Snacks and coffe/drinks provided. 

NOTE to VOLUNTEERS: Please bring paintbrushes, shovels, spades, gloves etc.


 
AMAZING TURNOUT at HAWTHORNE's APRIL COMMUNITY DAY OF SERVICE 
Thank you to the over 80 community members, parents, staff, and teachers who helped with our new playground! 
Thanks also to NAESP 
(National Association of Elementary School Prinicpals) and 
Landscape Structures Inc. for their gift and Day of Service.

BOOK FAIR
Monday, May 21 -- Parent Night Kick-off event from 6:00-8:00pm
Food and beverages provided. Free childcare provided in Room 9.

Tuesday, May 22 thru Friday, May 25

Books can be purchased from 8:15-8:30am AND all students are able to purchase during their normally scheduled library times that week.  On Friday, May 25 the book fair is open from 8:15am-3:00pm


SPIRIT WEEK
Monday, May 21 thru Friday, May 25

  • Monday – math day
  • Tuesday – literacy day – need storyteller volunteers
  • Wednesday – science day – need many volunteers. Pacific Science Center will fill gym with science experiments
  • Thursday – game day with school-wise bingo at end of day
  • Friday – dance day

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED (especially on Tuesday and Wednesday). Contact info@friendsofhawthorne.org to volunteer 


MARINER'S BASEBALL FAMILY NIGHT
Saturday, May 26 at 4:15pm

Tickets: $11/each. Email: info@friendsofhawthorne.org to purchase, or see Maria Marshall in Front Office 


CAR WASH hosted by the 4th and 5th Graders 
Saturday, June 2nd from 9:30-12:30pm at Hawthorne Playground

Suggested Donation: $10/car


FIELD DAY
Friday, June 8 at Rainier Playfields in the morning

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED from 8:30-noon to help students at a variety of fun stations.
Bag lunches and snacks served to all students. 


COLUMBIA CITY FARMER'S MARKET - FOH PTA is HOSTING THE KIDS TENT
Wednesday, June 13th from 3:00-6:00pm

Hawthorne Arts Teacher, Eve Hammond, will lead a fun art project for the kids. Face-painting too! Please come by to get in on the fun.
Incoming/Current K Family Playdate is also being held 4:00-6:00pm that day by the big tree near the path/vendors.


Seattle Public Schools is offering summer language camps in beginning Chinese or Hindi or Arabic.
